
The Republic Short Story Reward reveals its shortlist of 25 stories chosen from 7,920 entries. Winners will be announced in May & June, with publication by Granta.
Republic Short Story Reward Shortlist
The Republic Short Story Reward shortlist, revealed today, features 25 “appropriate, crucial and vivid” unpublished stories picked from a record-breaking 7,920 entrances. The stories shortlisted this year take on everything from human trafficking and battle to being a mother and friendship.
5 winners representing the five areas of the Commonwealth will certainly be announced on 14th May, with the overall victor revealed on 25th June. The regional victors will obtain ₤ 2,500 and the general winner will certainly get a ₤ 5,000 prize, while the tales will certainly be released online by Granta and in an unique print collection by Paper + Ink.
Judges’ Perspective on Short Stories
The writer and filmmaker Dr Vilsoni Hereniko, who chaired the judging panel, stated: “This shortlist of relevant, vital and dynamic analysis is composed of the very best 25 tales from a swimming pool of practically 8,000 entries. Together, they show why the short-story form must remain to be sustained and advertised.”
Dr Anne T Gallagher AO, director-general of the Republic Structure– the intergovernmental organisation which administers the reward– included: “The breadth of viewpoints, experiences, and voices is awe-inspiring, and a powerful tip of the innovative energy that unites us as a Republic of individuals. We congratulate those who made the shortlist; their work speaks not only to our shared challenges, yet likewise to our desires and hopes.”
