Plain Folk: A Unique Music Venue

About a 30-minute drive north of Cincinnati is the rural village of Pleasant Level, Ohio. It’s a classic small town with a small population and farms sprawling in a lot of directions. Despite its distance from the city, many make the trip to visit the old village schoolhouse, now home to the Plain Folk Live Music Coffee Shop.

Live Music and Open Mic Nights

Plain Folk’s weekly open mic is among the most popular in the area, attracting original blues, folk, rock, and country entertainers each Thursday evening. The Plain Folk Live Music Cafe is only open Thursday-Sunday.

Ambiance and Atmosphere

Evidence of the local music scene is abundant with posters, art, tapestries, stickers, instruments, and album covers adorning the walls. With its full stage and backline, the cafe hosts regular performances and neighborhood occasions all focused around an enduring enthusiasm for songs.

Outdoor Seating and Family Fun

In the warmer months, Plain Folk offers diners a magnificent view of the bordering farmland from its back patio. Families also have access to a full playground – another leftover piece of the school’s history.

A Blend of Cafe and Performance Space

Plain Folk is part cafe, part performance place built inside a historical 1913 school building. Despite its distance from the city, many make the journey to see the old village schoolhouse, now home to the Plain Folk Live Music Coffee Shop. The coffee shop is wheelchair accessible through use of a ramp in the back of the building.
